Our StoryMy husband and I were blessed with our first child in June 2002. We were thrilled to have a little “sweet pea” to love and cherish. I wanted to give my daughter a special blanket that would help her feel secure and comforted when I could not be with her. I decided to check out the biggest baby store in town to find her a special, unique “blankie.” After all my searching, the ones I saw just looked like all the others. Since I could not find a blanket I liked, I decided to make her one! I started visiting fabric stores in search of fabrics to complement her nursery. I used decorative flannel on one side and satiny-silk on the other. I chose satiny silk because after doing research, I found that the satiny-silk fabric emulates the soothing fluid sensations within the womb. Caressing the fabric helps give the child a sense of security, comfort and love. The first “lovey” turned out beautifully. I wanted to acquaint my daughter with her new “lovey” so I began holding it next to her while I nursed her. It didn’t take long before she couldn’t be without it! I would place her “lovey” next to her during her naps and at bedtime. As she got older, the more attached she became. As soon as I would lay her down in the crib with her “lovey”, she would turn over and start sucking her thumb while snuggling with it. It was a godsend during times of stress or discomfort. Whenever she was feeling under the weather or needed some extra TLC, her “lovey” would help to get her through. I quickly realized that another “lovey” was in order. A replacement “lovey” for those times when “Lovey #1” was being washed or, heaven forbid, we had misplaced it. I was so delighted knowing that I was able to create something so special for my daughter. I started making “Lovey Doveys” for close friends that were expecting and “Cozy Wozys” and “Pillow Willows” for children’s birthdays. I saw that there was a need for personalized baby blankets and custom “silkies” that both babies and mothers alike would treasure! My business started growing rapidly just by word of mouth. . . . Low & Behold, Sweet Pea & Me® was born!
